Day2 in Yelloknife, North West Territories

Yesterday was the the first full day we had here in YK, and wow what a great day. We started out a little slow I slept in till about 7 and just enjoyed spending time talking with Papi. After we got breakfast out of the way we decided to do some tours of the Legislative Assembly then the Prince of Whales Northern Heritage Center which is a very neat full of all kinds of things including a bush plane that was used to transport mail.

Today was National Aboriginal Day June 21 - Share in the Celebration!

First proclaimed by the Governor General of Canada on June 13, 1996, June 21st of every year has become a day in the Canadian calendar that presents Aboriginal peoples with a great opportunity to express great pride for their rich diverse cultures with their families, neighbours, friends and visitors.

First Nations, Métis and Inuit people will gather to celebrate and share with spectacular dance, song and theatrical performances both contemporary and traditional that will bring you to your feet!

National Aboriginal Day is a fun filled day for the whole family to enjoy together.

National Aboriginal Day is an opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal people and their contribution to make Canada the great nation that it is become, Share in the Celebration!

And boy was there a celebration in town, throat singers, full dressed dancers and people coming together and have the time of their lives.

After we got home we hung out had a great BBQ rib dinner and a few laughs.

Taylor and I decide it would be good to take off and go shore fishing on one of the million lakes within the town limits, we headed out to Jackfish lake which after soe bushwacking we made it down to the shore line, dropped some line in the water and well it started....you know it is going to be great when the first cast the 2.5 foot pike follows your lure right up to the point it leaves the water, two more casts and sure enough Taylor caught his first and the trips first fish. A very respectfull 2.5 foot 5-6 lbs pike not sure who was more excited him or me :) Time stamp on the frsh fish 10:10 PM (and no flash needed was shooting f11 at 1/30 of a second).

Fish 1 10:10 PM

Fish 3 10:43pm

The one that didn't get away!!

Yet another fish for Taylor

9.8lbs 3 feet long

Taylor has landed the biggest fish I have seen caught of the shoreline, at first I thought it was a snag until he started to yell holly smokes lok at the size of it!!! HELP!!

He manage to land it all by himself without a net as it didn't fit in to the net we had.

Here are some more photos from the rest of the day. Taylor and I spent some time on Ragged Ass Road which is a famous road in YK.

I have been photographing portraits for the past 15 years. I love capture the moments that pass people by. Here is a portfolio of my portrait, lifestyle, wedding, baby and maternity work.
